Dear all,
We are pleased to announce the launch of our second and last Tunnel Boring
Machine (TBM) - San’ah -
on June 30th 2015. HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar, Governor of Riyadh and His
Excellency Eng. Ibrahim bin Mohammed AlSultan, Mayor (Ameen) of Riyadh,
attended the event and pressed the operating button.
The TBM, named San’ah, which
means “Beauty”, has joined our first TBM, Dhahfrah, on the 12.9km tunnel between
Riyadh Airbase and King Abdul Aziz Historical Centre. The TBM is expected
to drill at an average rate of 75 to 100m per week, installing precast concrete
segments as rings which form the tunnel lining as it moves forward. Dhahfrah has bored
more than 593m out of 6704m (9%
Complete) in the eight weeks since it began operation.
FAST Project Director, Jaime Freyre de Andrade Calonge stated, "FAST is
delighted to put its second TBM safely into service today and meet our schedule
commitment. This would not have been achieved without the great teamwork and
cooperation among our team, RAMPED, and our customer, ADA.” He also thanked
FAST employees for their hard work and emphasized the importance of working as
one team to reach such a major milestone.
